A good friend of mine, who's a local Fender rep and has been a great help in all aspects of getting our band up and running, is married to a metal artist. She creates her stuff with all types of metals by weaving and/or welding. This evening in Halifax there was a art show which spanned different areas of the city. Her latest project is weaving guitar strings into different types of hanging art. She thought it would be a great idea to have her husband outside her exhibit busking with his guitar. He asked myself and our drummer, who plays guitar as well, to give him a hand. So picture us on the sidewalk in +4 celsius(39.2 fahr) jamming! It was a cool, literally and figuratively, experience. I'm pretty sure I was the only one in Canada playing Robert Earl Keen, Cross Canadian Ragweed and Reckless Kelly tunes on the street this evening!

Looks like a fun time, even in the cold. At first when I read metal artist I thought you meant she played metal music. Lol.

darcy, is that a Montana shop Gibson the guy in the cowboy hat is playing ?
Personally, I would never take anything but a beater guitar outside in that kind of weather.
I would think warping and cracking would be an issue.  Any thoughts ?

Actually the guitar he's playing is a Epiphone but he's the guy who's the Fender rep!!!! It's an Elvis Presley model(see the neck) from a few years ago that he loved and his wife picked it up for him as a Christmas present. For the love of Fender don't tell anyone though! I'm playing my first Yamaha. You gotta play in the cold when your Canadian. It's a matter of national pride!

I agree, I have a guitar that I use exclusively for outdoor playing. Especially since a lot of it ends up being in front of a fire so the front of the guitar is very hot and the back is in negative temperatures.

That's the beauty of the new composite guitars...temperature has no effect on them...

Check out http://www.rainsong.com/  for graphite guitars

or http://www.compositeacoustics.com/   for carbon fiber guitars.

I've played both and the sound is almost indistinguishable from wooden models.  I prefer the CA's, but that's just my opinion.

Can they double as tennis racquets ? Seems like the right materials.

Don't know about the tennis racket use, but they are good if you are boating in the Southland and need to paddle to shore. Never thought much of them (carbon/composite) until a recent experience which we don't have time to discuss (and never will).

I've played a few rain songs and they are just to bright for my taste. I know of a couple of guitarists in Hawaii who love them for just that reason.

I think one of those composite guitars would be just the thing for reprising the role of "El Kabong!!".

I can't get the pics over here Darcy.  (Stupid networking through 5 different countries and across a dang ocean, not to mention the outerspace satellite BS)

I have my Ibanez that I have taken with me almost everywhere in the 12 + years I have had it.  She is technically the beater guitar but has her own spot in line when it comes to getting out of the house.  Her and I are enjoying some time together in Afghanistan now.  She isn't even jealous of the Epiphone Masterbilt I had shipped over here.

I know how playing helps me relax after a ****ty day and although I can't even imagine what you guys are dealing with over there I hope your guitar helps you through the night.

That reminds me of a LUCERO song.

However I do have some time every so often to sit and pick and thanks to all of the tabbers here get to play a lot of music.

Ummmm... Was I the only one to notice that NONE of the people on the sidewalk are looking at the band??

Maybe the guy in the hat farted and the crowd is fleeing the scent from the scene of the crime.
