GFS Alnico Fatbody Oversized Polepiece Tele Bridge Pickup. http://store.guitarfetish.com/alfaovpotebr.html I tried this pickup on a whim and I am thoroughly impressed. It gives me plenty of twang when I need it, but it also rocks out like there's no tomorrow. This pickup has polepieces similar in size to bass pickups. The website claims that this gives it more power. I don't know how accurate that is, but it is a strong pickup. I like to have my pickups a little lower than standard and this guy does stand up to the extra distance from the strings. The overall tone is bright and clear, but not shrilly or the usual "ice-pick" with a lot of Tele bridge pickups. The top end bites without sticking a pencil in your ears while the bottom end keeps most of the clarity. Playing through an overdrive pedal or through a pushed amp, the pickup still sounds clear and meaty. Rolling off the volume doesn't really take off that much top end to cause any problems. I don't have a "tone" pot on my Tele, so I can't comment on how the tone pot affects the pickup. Along with what I think is a great tone, the look of the oversized polepieces is really cool. Add in the fact that it only cost $35.00US and I can't say anything bad about it. This pickup destroys the myth of the super-high priced boutique pickups, in my eyes. No reason for Bardens or Lollars, this one does it for me. Oh, one other thing...I ordered this pickup after 6pm EST on Wednesday, and it arrived at my house in Anchorage, AK on Saturday. So, additional kudos on GFS customer service.

Charlie, 1. GFS does offer a neck version of the Fatbody. I have not tried it, but from what I've read on other boards, it does a great job. If it's anything like the bridge pickup, I'll wager it's a good value. You do not need to use them as a matching set. I only have the bridge version and I have it teamed up with an AmStd stock neck pickup...they balance nicely and blend smoothly. 2. My own opinion is that this blows away any noiseless pickup. I just have not been impressed with noiseless. They lack a certain "life" that only single coils have (and I'm not talking about hum, either). Just like coil-tapped pickups aren't really the same as true single coils, noiseless aren't really single coils either. But, I also say this without having played all brands/models of noiseless pickups. There might be some out there that are phenomenal, but I haven't heard them yet. 3. I would rate this higher than any stock Tele bridge pickup Fender has to offer. I'd also rate it higher than any SD or DiMarzio Tele bridge pickup, and quite a few boutiques I've head as well.

Dougie, any hum issues with the pickup you evaluated?

Charlie, As you know, all single coil pickups will have a little bit of hum - more if you are in a room with a lot of computer equipment, flourescent lighting, etc...and this pickup is no exception. That being said, however, this guy does not have any abnormal amounts of hum. I have my Tele shielded fairly well, so I have a somewhat reduced amount of hum.
